IMT strongly support the European R&I ecosystem call for an increased public support under FP10
As part of the discussions on the future framework program for research and innovation (PCRI) FP10, IMT advocates for increased support for fundamental research and innovation in Europe. Given global challenges and the necessary support for European competitiveness, its research and innovation ecosystem must be able to make the most of the opportunities presented by the energy, digital, and industrial transitions.
The Institut Mines-Télécom argues that FP10 must:
- Support European resilience by enhancing the flexibility of the program to enable agile investment in initiatives that strengthen the European Union’s (EU) responsiveness to climatic, geopolitical, economic or industrial disruptions, particularly in the field of cybersecurity, energy sovereignty and digital transformation of industries;
- Guarantee excellence in research to ensure the European Union’s leadership in R&I by stepping up support for world-class research projects in a wide range of scientific and technological fields, in a context of openness and development of collaboration;
- Address the needs of society regarding current challenges by focusing on key areas (public health and ageing well, adaptation to climate change, energy transition, sustainable mobility, industrial and digital transition, and social inclusion) while ensuring that the results of research are accessible, beneficial and understandable for citizens.
Strengthening the fundamental research – applied research – technology transfer continuum for European resilience and sovereignty
IMT emphasizes the importance of supporting the entire continuum from fundamental research to applied research to technology transfer. Strengthening all components of the future FP10, in their nature and specificity, would ensure a crucial balance for research, technological development, and innovation in Europe.
By assuming the risk of investment in fundamental research, the EU would encourage the exploration of new ideas and innovative concepts, leading to significant scientific advances and technological breakthroughs. The IMT also calls for better collaboration between the public and private sectors to accelerate the industrialization process and ensure that innovations meet market and societal needs.
